Launch of the First Foster Family Network: A Milestone for Child Welfare

On October 18, 2024, the Minister of Women and Child Development will  launch the  India’s first Foster Family Network. This landmark initiative is a significant step toward providing safe, nurturing environments for vulnerable children in need of care and protection. The network aims to offer an alternative to institutional care by connecting children with loving foster families, ensuring their right to a family-like setting and emotional security.

This achievement is the result of years of dedication and tireless efforts by the Centre of Excellence in Alternative Care (CEAC), working closely with UNICEF and the Department of Women and Child Development (DWCD) in Chhattisgarh. Their combined vision and commitment have laid the foundation for this progressive system, which focuses on the holistic development of children and emphasizes the importance of family-based care.

The Foster Family Network symbolizes a shift toward more compassionate, community-centered care. By empowering families to foster, it strengthens the social fabric and provides children the chance to grow in safe, supportive homes. This momentous launch sets the stage for a brighter and more inclusive future for countless children.

Let’s together celebrate this remarkable achievement and continue to support the foster family network as it evolves and makes a lasting impact on the lives of children across the country.
